Miriam a friend from Austria picked me up from the hospital. Two screws are taken out of my knee. Everything went fine, beside the heart rate monitor, he made alarm because my heartbeat was to low: 36 beats per minute when I sleep.

Last week I looked around in Helsinki, checked the board expo and the freeride film festival. Freeride movies getting better and better, it is not just about xtreem lines but also nature and lifestyle. They getting more emotional and better to understand for people how never have been freeriding before. Especially I really like the European movies.

After Helsinki I took a little propeller airplane to Riga and from Riga to Zurich where Gerlinde (a friend) guided me around. Zurich is the most expensive city of the world, but for shore worth it for a visit if you like architecture. It is a nice situated city between mountains and seas.

Yesterday I find a super nice apartment, next to my favourite freeride mountain of Austria.

Winter in Finland has begun.

• -10 Degrees and 5cm of snow, the winter feeling is there. The first thing what we did was taken out the plastic mini skis and ski down the frozen roads and white fields on a full moon night. We are never too old to feel like a kid.

My last days in Finland I have been sawing wood and Mikaela and me have been biking around, looking for the most beautiful spots on the island. See the pictures for winter landscapes of Kimoto and surrounding.

I’m nervous, didn’t do any extreme sports for two months now! In the last three weeks I have been in the gym 15 times, beside running and slacklining. I have seen enough gym now, I need the mountains, hiking, free-riding, sprays, cliffs, wind lips, cruising and big lines, you feel me?

7 November I get operated on my knee in Austria, they’ll take out the screws from last winter. 8 November I celebrate my 30 birthday hopefully not in the hospital and 9 November there is the freeride filmfestival in Innsbruck (www.freeridefilmfestival.com) were also our (the Steinbocks) movie ‘By Fair Means’ will be showed for the very first time. Be there if you can!

For this slackline picture I risk my head, this tree on the left is dead and there was a chance that it would break by walking the line. It was moving quite a lot, that is why the line is so loose. I’ll call it extreem slacklining 😉

Livestyle

I enjoy my lifestyle with lots of sports, traveling, friends, festivals, art, interesting jobs and beautiful nature. But sometimes it is complicated and frustrating, to not find work again or a place to stay, living by friends or in the car. The job I did the last five weeks was boring, I get bored soon and I am bad in it. Finland is beautiful and it was nice to explore a new culture and nature. I have seen white tail sea eagle from 240 cm circling above my had, Moses crossing the street, lots of Islands by kayak and boot picking bijzonder eatable mushrooms and my name made it in the local newspaper after running a orienteering competition (where I wrote about in my last blog). Check the pictures below. But my home is in a country with challenging nature and lots of sun or snow.

Snowboard training days 14 till 18 November.

Soon it is time to enjoy the white powder again. I love to share my passion and offer you four days skills & style lessons in Hintertux inclusive hotel and half pension. In these four days we prepare you for the winter with technique training based on your personal skills, piste and off piste. On request the are also avalanche risk lessons. Ik geniet van mijn lifestyle met extreme sporten, reizen, vrienden, festivals, kunst, interessant werk en waanzinnige natuur. Maar soms is het gecompliceerd en frustrerend om weer geen werk te vinden, geen woonplaats te hebben en leven bij vrienden of in de auto. Het werk wat ik afgelopen vijf weken heb gedaan was super saai. Maar het is mooi een nieuwe cultuur en natuur te leren kennen. Ik heb witte staart zee arend boven mijn hoofd zien cirkelen en vissen, eland zien grazen langs de weg, vele kleine eilanden gezien bijzondere eetbare paddenstoelen geplukt en afgelopen week stond mijn naam in de lokale krant vanwege de wedstrijd oriëntering die ik mee gerend heb. Maar waar ik me thuis voel is waar uitdagende natuur is en veel zon, of sneeuw.

Mijn voorbereidingen voor de winter zijn langst begonnen en binnenkort is het weer tijd de snowboards weer uit te pakken. Ik wil graag mijn passie delen en bied een vier daags skills en style programma aan in Hintertux inclusief hotel en halfpension. Tijdens deze dagen bereiden we ons voor op de winter met techniek training gebaseerd op jou persoonlijk niveau op de piste en off piste. Bij behoefte komt ook lawinekunde aan bod . We zullen samen genieten van het eerste winterse gevoel. Deze dagen zijn bedoelt voor alle snowboarders en skiërs die zich zeker voelen op de rode piste.

The first World Freeride Tour competition I will ride 7 till 12 January in Revelstoke, Canada. Direct after the competition I will go three days heliboarding in Revelstoke sponsored by CMH. This will be a huge experience for me. Thanks to CMH.

I’ve been eating delicious fresh fish and moose meet hunted on the island where I live. I have been vegetarian since I was born, since a few years I made some exceptions for good and local meet. I’m still against the way and the quantity we eat meet.

I don’t eat the ordinarily meat because of my own health, the health of other people in the world, the quality life of animals, to save the nature and because there is lots of delicious vegetarian meals. I started with a new sport: orienteering. With a map and a compass you have to make fast as possible a parcour from points hidden in the forest. I have a good feeling for orienteering in the mountains, but in a dense forest it is a different story. Last week I used one hour for 3 KM. De eerste Freeride World Tour competitie vindt plaats van 7 tot 12 januari in Revelstoke, Canada. Direct na de wedstrijd ga ik drie dagen heli boarden in Revelstoke, met dank aan mijn sponsor CMH.

Ik heb heerlijk lokaal vers vis en eland gegeten van het eiland waar ik woon. Ik ben vegetariër vanaf mijn geboorte maar sinds een paar jaar maak ik wel eens een uitzondering voor goed en lokaal vlees. Maar ik ben tegenstander van de hoeveelheid waarop vlees word gegeten.

Ik eet niet het ‘gewone supermarkt’ vlees voor mijn eigen gezondheid, de gezondheid van de mensheid, de kwaliteit van het leven van de dieren, voor de natuur en omdat er ook heerlijke vegetarische gerechten bestaan. Afgelopen weken ben ik een nieuwe sport begonnen; oriëntering. Het doel is een parkoers dwars door het bos, gemarkeerd met punten, zo snel mogelijk af te leggen met behulp van een kaart en kompas. In de bergen ben ik erg goed in oriënteren maar in het dichte bos is het totaal anders, laats had ik over een uur nodig voor 3KM. Morgen ren ik mijn eerste wedstrijd op een van de tienduizend eilanden hier in Finland…

Since two weeks I’m at the island Kimito in Finland where Mikaela and Niklas Hollsten (known from FWQ, freeride competitions) are living. I stand up at 5:30h to go pick about 500 kilo apples a day. No comments about the job, but Finland is beautiful. We stay in a summer house far from civilization with view over the sea with thousands of islands. After work we take the boot to visit different wonderful islands and in the evening we drink our beer in the sauna before we jump into the sea. I have seen wonderful rock forms as islands, lots of forest and some reindeers.

There have been more than 10.000 unique visitors watching this site since December, thanks for looking. You are the motivation for me to keep on writing.

Last weeks among other I’ve performed at street festivals, I followed dance courses and I’ve been climbing.

Especially ten days climbing in Corsica were very beautiful, the rocks have such strange forms. We climbed rocks from a few hundred meters, started not steep but without climbing holds, then almost vertical with hols and strange forms, than vertical with one fissure.

Deze site heeft inmiddels meer dan 10.000 unieke bezoekers sinds december 2011. Leuk dat je mijn site bekijkt of volgt, dat is mijn motivatie om te blijven schrijven.

Afgelopen weken ben ik onder andere opgetreden op straatfestivals, heb danscursussen gevolgd en geklommen.

Vooral tien dagen klimmen in Corsica waren heel mooi, de rotsen daar hebben bizarre vormen. We hebben er routes van honderden meters hoog geklommen soms steil zonder grepen, dan weer een horizontaal dak met enorme gaten gevolgd door een verticale wand met een spleet erin.

As proud ambassador of Respect the Mountains I have good news. At Outdoor Trade Fair in Friedrichshafen, non-profit organization Respect the Mountains was revealed as one of the winners of a 20.000 euro grant from the European Outdoor Conservation Association. The grant was given to the Envirotrek Series, their Mountain Clean Up events. This money assists with the European growth of Envirotrek, ensuring that the Series can run in 2012 and 2013. www.respectthemountains.com keep it clean.

I climb with friends all over France and Corsica. During the week in Autoire, during the weekend in the Calanque, Joncas and Grotte des Demoiselles. If I do a sport I wane be good. It feels good to balance at your maximum performance. Beside the easy chilling life style with friends, nature and travelling.

Work changes everyday, I finished a bedroom, sawing threes, work with bees for honey, garden work etcetera. All at Cabre Perdu, nature pure.                                                              The work with bees is very interesting and important. Did you now that 80% off cultivated plants are fertilized by bees? So without bees we should have almost no fruits and vegetables. Albert Einstein already said ‘if there would be no bees for four years the humanity will die’.

At the picture you see me after caching a hive of bees, and after that a queen shell what we open so the queens can fight till the strongest survive. If not the queen will swarm with half of the hive.
