After Irian completed sport school in the Netherlands he moved to Austria to follow his passion. He aquired the qualifications ‘Staatliche Snowboardlehrer’ and “Snowboardführer” snowboard guide, also ski and crosscountry teacher. Since 2003 he is travelling the world both guiding and competing in freeride competitions.
GUIDING
‚I love to share my passion and knowledge for the mountains with my guests. My goal is to offer safety, to make the best out of everiday weather situation and offer unforgettable days riding the best powder that can be found.‚
Whether freeriding near the piste or in backcountry, doing a hut to hut ski/splitboard tour or heli-skiing, each day is a new experience. Irian is the perfect guide who takes your winter thrills to the next level.
However, safety is always the most important consideration. Among others I give safety courses for beginners and to young professional freeriders.
COMPETITION
For many years he has competed in Chinese Downhill and Big Mountain competitions. He was the first and only Dutch man to compete in the Freeride World Tour.

He often snowboard to shoot films and take photos. Together with friends, the ‘Gnarlberg Steinbock’ crew, they made a movie called ‘By Fair Means’, which won the Freeride Film Festival 2013. You can find my images in various Dutch Magazines including cover shots for Taste and Deep.
SUMMER
During the summer I run a bike school with my friend Bas Elhorst. At MTB Tours and Trails we provide mountain biking camps all over Europe. In the summer I also work as a photographer, videographer and sport teacher, plus I repair old houses and get involved in a lot more…
When I have spare time from exploring the mountains by bike or board I also like to climb, surf, breakdance, kayak, travel and get involved in most outdoor activities.

He Arjan, ben jij nog steeds fanatiek aan het klimmen. vorige zomer en de zomer daarvoor heb bijna dagelijks geklommen. Ik woon in de zomer in de Lot zuid fr. Super mooie gorges. Zeer goed klimgebied, dus als je nog steeds veel klimt moet je zeker eens voorbij komen.

Echt tof dat je zo ver bent gekomen in het freeriden. Ik kon mijn ogen bijna niet geloven. Ik klim nog steeds, vrij actief. Zowel zomer als winter alpinisme. Ik woon sinds een jaar in Engeland en werk als geoloog, vooral veel in Oost Europa. Sinds een paar jaar ook bezig met freeriden op board en skies. Na tourskie, lawinekunde en freeride cursus nu vaak zelf met vrienden onderweg. Ook met Mark (jeugdgroep) trouwens. We schrijven vaak blogs van onze avonturen op verticaldissidents.net. Daar staat ook een kort filmpje van onze nieuwjaarsavonturen. Twee jaar geleden een seizoen als skileraar in skigebied Wildkogel gewerkt. Super tof. Vorig jaar 5 winterse weken samen met mijn vriendin met onze bus door de Alpen getourd, de sneeuw achterna. Kunnen we je niet een keertje boeken voor een paar mooie freeride dagen? Lijkt me tof je weer eens te zien.
Ja zou tof zijn je weer eens te zien. Wildkogel heb ik ook mn 1e seizoen gedaan.
Heb grote plannen voor de zomer, misschien interesant om met jou eens over te hebben. Gaat o.a. om klimmen, maar schrijf ik je liever prive, wat is je e-mail?
