With my new sponsor Revert 95 I’m motivated to ride comps again.

Last week I rode in St Moritz 3* competition. Super lot of snow, and for me a new face (part of the mountain where the competition takes part). It is a hard face to find your way, the face is concave. I missed my first cliff but drove into the steep and technical part quickly and took the double cliff as planned, the second was about 6 meters and I stumped it. I got the 3d place.

Yesterday I drove a comp in Hochfügen which I won 2 years ago. It had snowed 10 cm but below the snow was hard. I rode with my super lightweight Nitro Ultimate. A good board but not made ​​for large cliffs with icy landings. The day before the comp I broke the top layer because of a hard landing on ice blocks. In my 2nd cliff broke my board between my bindings. I tried to finish my line, but it ended in a fall and landed close to a rock.

Since two weeks I’m riding crazy couloirs and first class powpow in Italy. Did some fotoshootings in the Dolimiten, riding Couloirs 1500 vertical meters with Jeremy Jones. Now I’m in Livigno, last day in Bormio where we had about 2000 vertical meters fresh powpow. To match good stuff is going on, will let you know later.

Last 2 weeks where amazing, even with the little snow we had.

Together with my two freeride buddies Christian Schnabel and Bas Elhorst I have been riding deep pow in Italy and some serious steep terrain from 1400 vertical meters.

Other days I have been hiking. Yesterday I made a big tour with Mikaela Hollsten and Timo Hemeler. We climbed a via ferrata to the Vordere Rendelspitze. From there we ride all a nice couloir into the Hintergebirge. From there we used our splitboards to hike up to Lattejoch. Behind Lattejoch we went for a coffee and apfelstrudel in Kappl. While we were eating our Apfelstudel I was checking the photos from lines we saw on our hike. A view minutes later I knew I need to ride that couloir from Lattejoch.

One hour later I stood on top of the couloir. The last sunlight of the day shone in the couloir. Severalchamoisran alongthe couloir down the mountain. I dropped in the super steep couloir and found deep powder. The best and one of the longest couloirs I ever had been riding.

Anyway I am in the mountains every day and enjoy it. The first competition is cancelled because of too less snow.

This picture means more to me than just an expression of joy.
The silence, beauty and at the same time the power and danger of the mountains with a blanket of virgin snow has also a spiritual meaning. While hiking and freeriding I am completely detached from everyday life.

Whether I am happy, angry, stressed or too much energy. When I come back from a day freeriding I feel relaxed and balanced.

Last days I’ve been chilling, and hiking. Today I froze my hands because I had forgotten my gloves and I had to climb rocks how where covert in snow. It was a dangerous and scary climb. Here some photo’s of the last days:

Avalanche accident

Last week three out a group of four skiers got caught by an avalanche in Lech, two survived, a 16 year old boy died. The avalanche danger was one on a scale of five. I shudder by this news.       Nature is strong and never 100% predictable. Be sure you go off piste with enough knowledge or with somebody how has the knowledge and never expect to be 100% save.

The first big pow still have to come but I’ve been shredding for the last 10 days. With and without guests, climbing and hiking till the fresh untracked powpow. On the south side of the mountains you still smell the summer and animals are playing in the leaves and trees. The north sides are quiet and covered by snow for the next few months. With full moon I hiked far over the mountains to visit a friend, on the way I made photos of the rivers. It is so good to be back in the mountains, NATURE IS BEAUTIFUL. Good to be at home again, after 7 month, back in my sweet apartment in Arlberg together with 2 good friends. I’m sredding with wePOWDER friends, and unbelievable but through we found some nice pow pow in playfull terrain after 2 hours hiking. See pics

Competitions.

Yes I will ride competitions, but less than before. On one hand I would like to train hard and to ride better than before, because I believe I can. On the other hand, beside competitions there is a lot of nice options; filming with the Steinbocks, guiding and missions how are still on my list. This year I got no financial sponsoring so that is the reason for me to put competitions in the second place, even if I don’t like it. 12 January I will ride my next competition this year, I had a good start in New Zealand with a 1 place in a 2* comp.

    Car against dog

To drive to our house in France you need to drive a forest road from 2 KM with steep part and sharp turns.

If I take the car I race against Goliat (dog), if it is wet and slippery he mostly wins, otherwise I win. He runs about 45 KM/h and is very fast in the turns. Maybe I can put a go pro on his head…
