Once upon a time there was an ant called Max.
Ant Max loved to play. But he was lonely.
Until the day he met ant evelien.
And lived long and happy together.

Spring time was amazing good for touring and hiking in Arlberg. I hiked lots of new couloirs.
A lot of freeriders got cached by avalanches this winter. It is said but freeriding takes his risks. Anyway, I think many accidents could have been prevented: Today a good friend of me was riding down a couloir. When she was half away the couloir an avalanche from the top took her with 105 KM/h. The avalanche was made by an other freerider who did not wait long enough and dropped in the couloir to fast. Lucky the avalanche spat her out after 400 meters.
Enjoy life but think about the consequences of the danger from you and others!
I enjoy it a lot, beside I study the changes in snow almost every day.
Best powpow of the winter april 2015
Enjoy deep powder 1 of april with a guest.
Checking out huge old avalanche. And hiking in the valley again…
Touring with Bas Elhorst Mehlsack (1100m), hike a spine and riding new, amazing nice and steep lines filled with good powpow.
This photo has been in de ‚Snowboarder‘ (NL magazin) this season.
They are made in Andorra by Alex Gosteli.
Got realy good footage (film and photo) from this spring and from befor. New episodes will released next winter. A little impression:

Steepest line I’ve ever hiked
Yesterday was a day I needed to express myself, a lovely day. I broke a board and binding but hiked and rode lines I never have before. I started my 10 hours hike and ride day with Tijn Vuijk, climbing a beautiful couloir. The top was super steep and scary because of a no fall zone because of that I needed 20 minutes for the last 4 meters, but it was worth it! Tijn hiked and skied almost from the top, respect. After that another very crazy line, I guess it’s never been ridden before. Then one more and one more till it was dark.
Here some photos, videos of the lines I’ll show later this year.
Felt the ‚Gnarlberg Steinbock‘ in me again 😉

Another hike, and ride… Photos of the ride are amazing, I think it’s worth a cover shot.
Probably never been hiked before either. Thanks Mikaela for the nice Photos.
And one more fun straight line before the sluff overtook me.
Photo from ****FWQ Obergurgl, I got 3rd place with a very technical sluff management line:
I had an amazing good week with my guests from Ripstar in Davos. 6 Days 6 big mountains, from sunrise till sunset in silence of the white mountains. After using the lift, we hiked further to the highest mountains. Fun, steep and cruising downhill runs with good pow pow. All this shared with a fun and fit freeride crew. Thanks to the crew and Ripstar.
Check the pics of our photoshootings our hiking & fun…. photos are not lying 😉
And more photos in Galery: irians guests
My first 4 star FWQ this season I made 5th place. I had a super good run but planed a to crazy line through the steepest part of the face. Becauce of an avalanche there was no more snow when I arrives there. Then I had to slide and jump down what was not looking good.
Today an epic powder day… Photo s of today a reservated for Snowboard magazine Taste.
Today a crazy day with Juan Bergada. If I ride with him I need to use all my skills. Jumping big cliffs out of steep couloirs surrounded with sharks. If Juan is on it is max motivation.
Also the sun was going crazy today.
Before the sunset I hiked a couloir, relax, enjoy the mountains, colors changing in the sky. And then drop in a longggg beautiful couloir.
Today we hiked a very interesting tour with the Steinbocks again. New terrain for all of us.
Last days I had good fotoshootings. (I can show a part of the photos) Check it out:
We hiked from Kapal (St. Anton) a couloir to ‚Verborgenes Kar‘ with Juan, Christian, Eike and Patrick.
Sometimes icy sometimes deep powpow.

Always special to explore new mountains nearby my home.

Because of wind we had to do some rock climbing. It is hard to see, but in the end of the snowfield (in the middle of the picture) is Eike climbing.
They mesured 189 KM/h wind in Arlberg last week. These are the wind traces…

But after hiking and climbing, we could ride some nice fresh pow pow, you can see the face we where riding in the background. And you can see Eike hiking again our last 500 vertical meters to Erlispitze from where we can ride down to Zürs…
From Erlispitze we saw the Antenne, behind the Antenne is Zürs, our destiny.
Pics of a photoshooting
Yesterday a beautiful touring day with my Steinbocks buddies, see photos.
What do I wear?
To stay warm but not getting sweaty I wear Mountain Hardwear, a superior alpine outfit (Compulsion jacket, compulsion 3L pants & ratio down jacket). I can highly recommended this combination. By putting on and off the Down Jacket you can regulate the changing temperatures in the mountains.
Underneath I wear Mons Royal, sheap whool from NZ to stay dry. 10 Peaks gloves makes it possible to make fast photos because of the zipper for the fingers.
